Community Coat Drive

The Global Girls, National Council of Negro Women Savannah Youth Section has partnered with Signature Furniture to launch a Community Coat Drive to be given to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Coats are being collected in all sizes.

The community is asked to bring clean, gently-used coats that are in excellent condition or new coats to Signature Furniture, 9307 Abercorn St., 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Coats will be collected through Jan. 30 and distributed on Feb. 1.

Apprentice program

The Construction Apprentice Program will be recruiting men and women interested in gaining construction and basic welding skills. The training programs lead to Technical Certificates of Credit in Concrete Forming/Carpentry, Masonry and Basic Welding.

They are offered free of charge to adults (18 years and older) through a partnership among Chatham County, Savannah Technical College and Step Up Savannah. There is no cost to participants for training, books or equipment.
