Bedside cabinets, wardrobes, headboards and more are among new lines of case goods and upholstered furniture for the healthcare and senior living market, announced this past week by Hekman Furniture, a venerable West Michigan name that Howard Miller acquired in 1983.

“Five years ago, this would have been all grandfather clocks and curio cabinets,” explained vice president of manufacturing Mike Wallace, standing by a production line of wood products. Workers skilled in finishing clock and cabinet cases now use the same skills on the bureau cabinets, book cases, headboards and wardrobes.

Company officials and employees alike hope the new Hekman Contract Healthcare/Senior Living line will maintain local employment for now – and grow it as the product line grows.
